On 16 March 2026, the Emergency Section of Fr. Picavet Clinic was officially commissioned, marking a key milestone in improving access to critical healthcare services. On the same day, the unit received its first patient—a young child with moderate pneumonia and acute diarrhoea with severe dehydration—who was successfully treated and recovered well, highlighting the urgent need for timely and quality emergency care.

The Emergency Section comprises four fully equipped units: an Emergency Room with essential life-saving equipment, a Dental Unit handling both emergency and routine procedures such as extractions, a Minor Procedure Room for minor surgical and medical interventions, and a Sterilization Room equipped with an autoclave to ensure proper infection prevention and control. Several dental cases were also successfully managed on the opening day, demonstrating the unit’s immediate functionality.

To strengthen emergency response, the clinic also acquired a dedicated ambulance to expedite the referral of critical cases to the regional hospital in Jinja. With a strong focus on maternal and child health, this initiative aims to reduce preventable deaths among vulnerable populations.

The opening of the Emergency Department was warmly received and widely appreciated by the local community, reflecting a shared commitment to advancing accessible, life-saving healthcare services

The Sterilization Room is a vital part of the Emergency Department, dedicated to ensuring high standards of infection prevention and control. It is equipped with appropriate technologies and operated by trained personnel who carry out decontamination, inspection, packaging, and sterilization of medical instruments in line with established protocols.

By maintaining strict hygiene standards, the room helps reduce the risk of infections and protects both patients and staff. It also supports other units by providing a steady supply of sterile equipment, reflecting the organization’s commitment to safe, high-quality healthcare services
