MARCH 2026: EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT OPENED AT PICAVET CLINIC

By Doctor Isaac. Head Father Picavet clinic
JINJA, Uganda – March 16, 2026 – The Fr. Picavet Clinic has taken a decisive step forward in improving access to life-saving medical services with the official commissioning of its new Emergency Section. The launch, which took place on March 16, 2026, represents a significant enhancement of critical healthcare delivery for the local community.
The impact of the new unit was immediate. On the very same day as its inauguration, the Emergency Section received and successfully treated its first patient: a young child suffering from moderate pneumonia and acute diarrhea with severe dehydration. Following prompt, quality care, the child made a full recovery—a powerful testament to the urgent need for timely emergency services in the area.
A Fully Equipped Facility for Urgent & Routine Care
The newly established Emergency Section is designed to handle a wide spectrum of medical needs with professional precision. It comprises four fully equipped units:
- Emergency Room: Stocked with essential life-saving equipment to stabilize and treat critical patients.
- Dental Unit: Capable of managing both emergency dental procedures and routine treatments, including extractions.
- Minor Procedure Room: Dedicated to performing minor surgical and medical interventions safely and efficiently.
- Sterilization Room: Equipped with an autoclave to ensure rigorous infection prevention and control standards across all procedures.
The unit’s readiness was further validated on opening day, with several dental cases successfully managed—demonstrating its immediate functionality and the team’s preparedness.
Strengthening Emergency Response & Referral Pathways
To bolster emergency response capabilities beyond the clinic’s walls, Fr. Picavet Clinic has also acquired a dedicated ambulance. This vehicle is specifically intended to expedite the safe and rapid referral of critical cases to the regional hospital in Jinja, ensuring that patients with complex needs receive seamless, higher-level care without delay.
With a strong focus on maternal and child health, this initiative is strategically designed to reduce preventable deaths among the most vulnerable populations, including young children and expectant mothers.
Community Response
The opening of the Emergency Department has been warmly received and widely appreciated by the local community. Residents have expressed renewed confidence in having access to dependable, urgent healthcare close to home—reflecting a shared commitment to advancing accessible, life-saving medical services for all.
